Khedrup Khungpo

he was born in Nyemo into the Khungpo family. His father’s name
was Tagkhye and his mother’s name was Tashi Kyi.

Originally he was Bonpo but he converted to Buddhism. He became
learned in the teachings of the Nyingma sect.

He visited India and Nepal where he received teachings on sutra
and tantra and extensive religious instruction from one hundred
and fifty scholars.

He became proficient in the tradition originating from Niguma,
the consort of Naropa, and then returned to Tibet.

In Shang-Shang, in the region of Shang, he founded a huge
monastery which contributed to the teaching of the Kagyu lineage
and became renowned as the Shangpa Kagyu.

It is said that he had eighty thousand disciples in all, and
that he reached the age of one hundred and fifty.
