The 17th Gyalwang
Karmapa and other high lamas will preside over an
assembly of thousands of monks, nuns and lay
devotees to pray for the wellbeing of the world and
for all sentient beings to be touched by the wisdom,
compassion and power of the buddhas and
bodhisattvas.
Gyalwang Karmapa will give a public teaching
connected with the practice of Buddha Akshobhya
(Tibetan: Mitrukpa) and Buddha Amitabha. His Holiness will also give
oral instructions on different meditations, and will
give a commentary each day on one of the specific
prayers for that day. In addition, there will be
prayers recited for the wellbeing of Tibet.
The Medicine Buddha Ritual, and Tara, Guru Rinpoche and
other prayers will be recited for the benefit of the
living, and the Akshobhya Ritual and Fire Ritual
will be offered for those who have passed away. For
the benefit of both the living and the deceased,
there will be a complete reading of the Kangyur, a
special long-life puja in relation to the Sixteen
Arhats ritual, an alms procession, a sutric
tradition Guru Puja with distribution of tsog, and
