The Second Singapore Kagyu Monlam
Time: April 30 – May 2, 2011
Place: Singapore Tai Pei Buddhist Centre
The 2nd Singapore Kagyu Monlam 2011 organized by Karma Kagyu Choe
Gong Kuen ZangLing Buddhist Centre was successfully held at
Singapore Tai Pei Buddhist Centre from 30th April to 2nd May 2011.
This year, we are honored to have His Eminence Sangye Nyenpa
Rinpoche to preside over the Singapore Kagyu Monlam again. Three
Rinpoches, five Khenpos and a total of 92 Sangha members and around
700 devotees attended this grand Monlam.
During this Monlam, rare and special holy objects were displayed as
part of the celebration of Karmapa 900, including Mother Black Pill
by the 15th Karmapa Khakhyab Dorje, Bone of Marpa Lotsawa, Gampopa’s
Hat and many others. Amongst these holy objects, the sacred statue
of the 1st Karmapa Dusum Khyenpa known as the talking statue was
placed on Karmapa’s throne table. The Karmapa 900 Book was displayed
as well among other things at the free distribution counter.
The first day began with a procession carrying the portrait of His
Holiness the 17th Karmapa and the Sacred Statue of the 1st Karmapa
Dusum Khyenpa. This was led by Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche. After placing
the portrait and sacred statue on the throne, a mandala offering was
made to His Holiness. Throughout the three days Monlam prayers were
performed as outlined by the Gyalwang Karmapa with the prayers from
the Kagyu Monlam Aspiration Book. Twenty-Branch Monlam prayers were
chanted every morning, and the rest of the sessions were composed of
selected prayers such as The Way Of Bodhisattva.etc.
On the night of the second day Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche led a special
prayer for the deceased.
Towards the end of the Monlam, all the Sangha members and devotees
performed “The Lamp Prayer”. Holding a crystal-like lotus lamp with
their utmost sincerity, everyone dedicated all the merits that have
been accumulated and offer this towards the flourishing of Buddha
dharma and World Peace.
